Community Service
The Wight Foundation was created to make a difference in the lives of young people and, subsequently, have those young people positively impact the lives of others. The Community Service Program is a critical component in this effort as it helps our scholars understand the importance of remaining connected with their home community. Our scholars are enlightened through gaining a greater understanding of the value of service. As they make a difference in the lives of others, they ultimately enrich and increase the value of their own lives.
Wight Foundation Scholars are expected to volunteer a minimum of thirty hours annually in their local communities. Some scholars average over 150 hours of service annually. Since scholars attend boarding schools, they complete their community service obligation during holiday breaks, spring break and the summer months. Our scholars volunteer at local schools, government agencies, professional offices, local businesses and community-based organizations.
